Tours in Egypt

Julia Harvey first travelled to Egypt in a professional capacity in 1990, when she was the accompanying Egyptologist on a Nile Cruise from Cairo to Aswan for the British travel company Swan Hellenic. Until the full-length cruises were halted in 1997, Julia continued to work with Swan Hellenic on an average two cruises a year.

In 2000, Julia travelled to Egypt for the first time with a Dutch group, as Egyptologist and tour leader in one. This was also the first time that Julia worked with the tour organization Djed Reizen, a cooperation that continues to flourish to this day.

Between 2004 and 2009, in cooperation with the Senior Academy (HOVO) Groningen, Julia organized a trip to Egypt every spring, linked to courses on Ancient Egyptian Culture she gives for the HOVO every autumn. Since 2010 Julia and Djed Reizen have been organizing these trips independently of the HOVO, which decided to concentrate on its core business of organizing courses. Click here for more information about HOVO courses in Groningen.

Julia offers different trips to Egypt, each linked to one of her HOVO courses, together offering an unrivalled introduction to this wonderful country – from its ancient roots to its modern realities.

Djed Egypt, part of Djed Reizen, organizes the practical side of the trips in Egypt – the travel, the hotels, the admission fees – in conjunction with Julia and an Egyptian tour guide. The English-speaking guide travels with the group and provides on the spot information on the sites. Julia is there to translate if necessary, and to provide extra background information, as well as answer any Egyptological questions you may have outside the actual visits to sites. The guide and Julia work together to make each trip an unforgettable experience.
